Deanna Gallicchio
Dietitian

I am the new Registered Dietitian here at GBUAHN. I recently graduated with my Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University at Buffalo(UB) while obtaining 1200 hours of supervised practice. My rotations include institutional food service, community wellness, government agencies, outpatient counseling, long-term care, clinical nutrition, renal nutrition, pediatric nutrition, and research. My rotations took place at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Oishei Children’s Hospital, Niagara Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, UB Dining Hall-Goodyear, UB Wellness, Buffalo, The Healing Connection, US Food and Drug Administration, Research at University at Buffalo, Neighborhood Health, and WIC. I conducted nutrition assessments, nutrition focused physical exams, and nutrition education. I also calculated individual nutrient needs and initiated and managed EN and TPN feeds. I also created numerous nutrition workshops and coordinated numerous health fairs.

I received my Bachelors in Dietetics and Nutrition with a minor in chemistry from Buffalo State College in 2016. My goal is to share and spread my love and passion for nutrition, fitness, mindfulness, and self-love.

I was the dietetic coordinator for Lighthouse Free Medical Clinic where I was responsible for gathering and organizing nutrition education material for patients as well as guiding and assigning all dietetic interns to work with interdisciplinary team in providing free healthcare to the uninsured and underserved patients.

I was Research Assistant at the University at Buffalo where I was responsible for collection of saliva samples, hair samples, food frequency questionnaires, body composition tests, fitness tests for the study, “Exergaming Intervention for Family Caregivers.” In addition, I conducted key informant interviews, qualitative data analysis, and transcription for the development of mobile produce market tool-kit to serve low access, income, and available communities.

During my journey to becoming a Registered Dietitian, I worked at Nutrition Concepts in Orchard Park, NY as a weight loss nutritionist. I also worked as a dietary supervisor at Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home in Williamsville, NY and a dietary assistant at Morgan Estates Assisted Living in Geneseo, NY.

Aside from nutrition, I used to dance competitively and sing throughout my childhood and early adulthood. These attributes will always be a part of me and make me who I am today.

Nutrition and dietetics have changed my life in ways that made me a better, stronger, more intelligent, and healthier person. For these reasons, I hope to bestow my knowledge onto others to impact the lives of others as well. Helping others achieve self-efficacy, inner motivation, and overall happiness make me feel rewarded.
